Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30

Thanks for checking out our Sabbatical info page.

We wanted to make it easy for you to find ways you can help us.

If you want more info about What a Sabbatical is and Why a Sabbatical, as well as what our Sabbatical will look like if you keep scrolling.

How you can Help:

PRAY

We covet your prayers. Would you set an alarm during our sabbatical for 11:28 and pray for us to find our rest in Jesus?

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Give

We aren’t able to have an experience like this without the help of others. If you can help us by giving gift cards, points for hotel rooms, connections on places to stay, or monetary gifts, we would be so blessed. If you have some other creative way to partner with us, we are open to that as well.

  • Gift Cards or checks can be mailed to our address below.

  • Direct to the Moores through Venmo, Zelle, or check/cash

Direct donations will not be considered tax-deductible donations, but we will not be taxed on them.

  • Given through Soma

Gifts given through Soma will be seen as charitable giving but will be taxed before being given to us.

Redeemer Network has already blessed us - they have paid for our Sabbatical Coach - Matt Kessler.

Also, Soma Austin will give $2500 towards our Sabbatical expenses and continue to pay our full salary and benefits.

Gifts received to date - $21,222 (as of June 10)

Thank you, we have surpassed our goal!!

It is hard to ask for support and not know what that support is for. So here is our best guess at what this could look like.

What is a Sabbatical?

A Sabbatical is not an extended vacation. It’s not a time to read books on leadership or visit successful churches to learn from them. A true Sabbatical is a season of Sabbath for prolonged rest. It’s like stringing together a number of Sabbath days. It’s an extended time in which you do no work. You do no pastoring, no leading, no ministering, no visioning of the church's future, and no sermon planning. You don’t try to accomplish anything big. You just BE!

Why a Sabbatical?

This is a generous gift from Soma Austin to the Moores. We chose May 15- July 31 of this year because it makes sense to do this before Reagan heads off to college in a year. It also comes on the heels of a challenging few years with many obstacles and trials. Reading the verses from Matthew 11 has highlighted we have been operating on our strength, and we need rest.

Being and Receiving are two words from my sabbatical coach that I am trying to focus on during this season -

Being with Jesus

Sit, cease from striving, not earning, no weight, guilt, or shame from Him. Enjoy. Delight. Savor. Present. Filling.

Receiving from Jesus.

Served by the Savior. Open-handed. No fear. Adopted.Co-Heir. Humbling. Gift of His love.

This Sabbatical is a season of being and receiving. How do I find rest with God, Jill, and Kids

  • With God - Being still, silent, and listening. Outdoors. Alone and with others. Delighting in his word. Fasting.

  • With Jill - Date nights, enjoying each other, walks and hikes, laughing, growing our communication skills. Good, slow meals.

  • With the Kids - Intentional time and conversation with each of them. Exploring, laughing, and sharing experiences. Playing games and new experiences

Sabbatical Road Trip June 1 - July 4

Part of our Sabbatical will be a Road Tip to Victoria, Canada. This will be an experience we hope will bring us even closer as a family and closer to God. We look forward to experiencing new places and people while finding rest and enjoying the journey.

The Journey

Travel to Victoria, Canada, 10+ days: Cloudcroft, NM; Flagstaff; AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Petaluma, CA; Oregon Coast; Tacoma, WA

Two weeks in Victoria, Canada.

Then 8-10 days back home: Boise, ID; Moab, UT; Twin Lakes, CO

Looking for AirBnB or Hotels in Cloudcroft, NM; LA; Oregon Coast;

We will be staying with and connecting with many people in our Soma family along the way. This will be a great encouragement and a chance to see how God is at work in His church. We will have time as a family to enjoy each other, God’s creation, and friends. We plan to take adventures in National Parks, go sightseeing, and enjoy new places. Once we arrive in Victoria, it will be two weeks of slower rhythms. Times of quiet, hiking, and exploring. Creating space to be with Jesus, together and separately. Reading/ listening to books. Meeting new people and being with Jesus.

As we travel, there will be intentional conversations about Jesus with the family and how we might live a life of resting in Him.
